Pacaya Volcano

We see lots of 15-year old girls celebrating their quinceaneras (15th birthday). The celebration is sort of like a wedding with no groom. I took pictures of two of them this morning.
This afternoon we hiked up Volcan Pacaya. Val, an OR nurse from our group, got carsick on the way there and waited 4 hours for us at the bottom. Not a fun day for her, although she befriended a couple of little girls.
The hike was more strenuous than I remembered, but we made it. We saw climbers heading up with full mountain climbing gear and little boys heading down with big bundles of wood on their backs for cooking fires. Some dogs followed us and we shared our lunches with them.
I climbed into a crack in the ground for a mini sauna; and Lisa found a place to shop at the top of the mountain,
We shared our marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate with a Guatemalan family. We cooked the marshmallows in a volcanic hot spot.
One nurse had leg cramps at the top of the hike and we sent a horse up the mountain to help her down.
We are off to find something to eat.
Good night.

  1. Sounds like another great day. Doing s'mores on the volcano was a neat idea. The dresses on the girls celebrating their 15th birthday are beautiful. Looking forward to more pics and stories from your adventure. Lots of love,
    Michael
